Who are they?

Paumes i Brins is the artisan project of Pep Toni Ferrer Ferra and Magdalena Vidal, dedicated to recovering and transmitting the traditional craft of palm weaving (llatra) and chair caning in Mallorca. They have kept alive a trade of which very few professionals remain on the island today, becoming benchmarks in the technique.

What do they do?

They work with natural plant fibres, primarily garballó palm and bulrush, to craft traditional and contemporary artisan pieces — from caning antique chairs and restoring seats to woven objects and accessories made from palm. At the same time, Pep Toni and Magdalena teach the craft and run courses to pass on the long tradition of llatra weaving to new artisans.

What can you see?

At the workshop, you can see the entire process of working with palm and natural fibre, from material preparation to the final weaving; observe how they restore and re-cord traditional chairs; see finished and in-progress pieces; and understand the variants of llatra and other techniques. It is also possible to attend or participate in demonstrations and practical workshops.
